Boost Your Spray Tan Business with 💰💰 Add-On Services

— Real Ways to Make More Money and Keep Clients Coming Back

Let’s be honest: giving a good spray tan is expected. But giving a killer spray tan experience? That’s what makes your business stand out. And that’s where add-on services come in.

These little upgrades not only increase your income (without adding much time), but they also make your clients feel pampered, polished, and taken care of. It’s the small details that make a big difference.

Here’s a breakdown of the top add-on services you can start offering right away — and why they’re worth it.

💦 Top Coat – For That Hydrated, Smells-Like-Heaven Finish

This isn’t just a “nice extra” — it locks in moisture, helps the tan fade more evenly, and leaves their skin feeling soft and smelling amazing. I call this the “Glow Lock”. Clients love that they leave feeling fresh, not sticky.

👉 Perfect for events, weddings, or any client who wants a more luxe finish.

⚖️ Base Coat – The Prep Step Most Artists Skip

This is like primer before makeup. It balances the skin’s pH levels and helps the tan absorb better and last longer.

Honestly, offering a base coat shows your clients you're a step ahead of the rest. It’s that professional touch that gets noticed — especially by clients with dry or uneven skin..

✨ Shimmer Drops – Add Some Glam to That Glow

Want to help your client feel like a bronzed goddess? Offer shimmer drops in gold or platinum. It gives their tan a radiant, red-carpet finish — and it’s customizable.

This is a fun one to offer when clients are heading to a vacation, wedding, or girls’ night out. Call it your “Golden Hour Glow” or “Glow Up Drop-In” — make it sexy and fun.

🔥 DHA Boosting Drops – For a Deeper, Richer Tan

These are a must for clients who want to go darker or who have that stubborn, hard-to-tan skin. A few drops in the solution make a huge difference in depth and longevity.

Think of this as your “Bold Babe” add-on. It’s powerful — and your clients will notice the difference right away.

🧼 Sunless Setting Powder – No Sticky, No Transfer, No Worries

This one is always a hit. Setting powder removes that sticky post-tan feeling and stops any transfer onto clothes or sheets.

Especially helpful for busy moms, office gals, or anyone tanning midday. You’ll hear “OMG I love that powder” more times than you can count.

💡 Why Add-On Services Matter

These little upgrades are where the money is. They don’t take much extra
time, but they do increase your ticket average, show your professionalism, and
make your client feel taken care of. They’re what keeps your clients coming back.

👏 Bottom Line: These Extras Set You Apart

In a crowded spray tan market, your service needs to go beyond just “good.” You want your clients walking out saying, “That was the best tan I’ve ever had.”

Add-on services help you get there — by making your tans last longer, feel better, and look next-level.

Let your business shine, boss lady. Don’t just be another spray tan tech — be the one everyone talks about.

How Hormones Impact Your Spray Tan

Author | Darlene Clattenburg | May 29, 2025 | Sunless Sessions Blog

Have you ever booked a spray tan and noticed it didn't turn out quite like last time—maybe it faded faster, looked uneven, or didn’t develop as dark? You’re not imagining things. The answer could lie beneath the surface—literally.

Welcome to the Sunless Sessions blog, where beauty meets science. In this post, we explore the powerful relationship between your hormonal cycle and your spray tan results. Understanding this connection can help you better plan your appointments and maintain that sunless glow longer.

How Hormones Affect Your Spray Tan:

Your body’s hormonal shifts—especially those related to your menstrual cycle—can directly affect your skin's texture, hydration, and cell turnover, all of which impact how your spray tan develops and fades.

Let’s break it down:

1. Estrogen: Your Glow-Boosting Hormone

When estrogen levels are high—typically during the follicular phase of your cycle—your skin tends to be more elastic and hydrated. This means it’s in prime condition to absorb DHA (the active ingredient in sunless tanning solution), resulting in a smoother, more even tan that lasts longer.

Spray tan tip: Book your appointment during this phase for your best results!

2. Progesterone: The Dryness Factor

As progesterone peaks during the luteal phase, many women notice an increase in skin dryness or sensitivity. Dry skin may cause patchy or uneven development and faster fading, especially on areas like the elbows, knees, and hands.

Spray tan tip: Step up your moisturizing game during this phase—hydrated skin is happy, glowy skin.

3. Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH):

While MSH doesn’t directly influence DHA-based spray tans, it does impact your natural pigmentation and may fluctuate during pregnancy or due to medical conditions. Higher levels of MSH can result in a deeper natural tan—and may also affect how rich your spray tan appears.

Spray tan tip: Communicate any hormonal changes to your technician to adjust solution strength or prep advice.

Maximizing Your Spray Tan Results—Any Time of the Month:

Regardless of where you are in your cycle, these expert tips will help you achieve a flawless spray tan:

💥Exfoliate 24 hours before your session to remove dead skin cells for a smooth, even base.

💥Hydrate daily, especially after tanning, to extend your glow and prevent patchiness.

💥Avoid sweat and tight clothing immediately after your tan to prevent smudging or transfer.

💥Talk to your spray tan professional about your cycle and skin condition so they can customize the session for you.

Final Thoughts: Sync Your Tan With Your Cycle:

At Liquid Sunshine, we believe in empowering our clients with knowledge. By understanding how your body’s natural hormonal rhythms influence your tan, you can work with your cycle—not against it—to achieve that radiant, bronzed look you love.

So next time you schedule your spray tan, consider your hormones, prep smart, and let your glow do the talking!

Why Do Feet & Hands Get

Discolored After a Spray Tan?

  Author | Darlene Clattenburg | May 31, 2025 | Sunless Sessions Blog

Have you ever finished a spray tan session only to notice your feet   looking darker, patchy, or oddly tinted? You’re not alone! Discolored feet   are a common concern — but the good news is, it’s totally preventable.

In this post, we’ll break down why it happens, and how to avoid spray tan feet & hands mishaps with simple, effective solutions.

💡 Why Do Feet & Hands Get Discolored After a Spray Tan?

1. No Protective Barrier

Feet are naturally drier and more porous — so without protection, they absorb more tanning solution. This leads to patchy or overly dark results, especially on the soles and toes.

2. Over-Application

Spraying too much solution directly on the feet & Hands or uneven distribution can result in splotchy, uneven coloring. Less is definitely more when it comes to this area! Spray a light coat, farther away and blend with a kabuki brush.

✅ How to Prevent Spray Tan Discoloration on Feet & Hands

1. Use Sticky Feet or Towels

Place sticky feet pads or a clean towel under your feet to prevent direct contact with the solution. This acts as a simple but effective barrier.

2. Apply Barrier Cream

Before your session, apply barrier cream on the tops and sides of your feet, toes, and ankles. Focus on dry spots — they’re prone to over-absorption.

3. Mist Lightly

Your technician should apply a light mist or “feather out” the product around the feet. A gentle, even spray will prevent blotchy spots. Blend with a kabuki brush.

4. Position Properly

Standing with feet slightly apart helps avoid pooling or dripping. Ask your tech for proper stance instructions — it makes a difference!

✨ Final Thoughts

Discolored feet & hands can take away from an otherwise flawless glow, but with a few smart steps — like using sticky feet, barrier cream, and expert technique — you can enjoy even, streak-free results from head to toe.
